Now in its sixth year, the Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) brings some of the best acts from around the country to celebrate this legendary area of rock and roll history. Festival headliners usually include bands and artists who made their name on the Strip. This year Linkin Park, which debuted as the band Xero at the Whisky A Go Go in 1997, will be closing out SSMF on August 3, performing on the main outdoor stage.
Nic Adler, one of the festival's producers and owner of The Roxy, told the Santa Monica Mirror that the main goal of the event is to celebrate the Strip's past, while being current and booking bands that are relevant.
"Linkin Park was always on our list of bands that we wanted to play the festival, but the timing hasn't worked out," Adler said to the source. "With Linkin Park, Brad the guitar player was a door guy at On The Rox at The Roxy. The other guys were in four or five bands that played the Whiskey and The Roxy. It's great when it comes together. They are a band that started on the Strip and ended up being one of the biggest touring bands in the world."
The last day of the festival will include a street fair with a beer garden and food trucks.
Some of the other acts at the festival, which runs from August 1 to August 3, include:
Awolnation
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Hoobastank
Joan Jett
Asher Roth
Wale
