Santa Monica’s Morgan-Wixson Theatre (MWT) has been putting on performances for almost seven decades and over the years, has hosted a wide range of famous faces including James Dean, David Mamet, Joyce DeWitt and Dan Crow.
Today, MWT directors, actors and actresses are busier than ever. Most recently, theatre enthusiasts flocked to see shows like “Caught in the Act,” “Westside Story” and “The Secret Garden.” What sets this theater apart from other playhouses is that the MWT also has acting classes for children as part of its Kids on Stage program.
Although the building has certainly undergone some changes over the years, such as the addition of a second building and a gallery, much of the original charm is still present.
The theater is currently one week into its showing of “All the King’s Men,” a story detailing the story of a well-known political figure, Willie Stark, in the deep south during the 1930s. Not only was the play awarded a Pulitzer Prize in 1947 and again two years later, the movie version won Best Motion Picture at the 1949 Academy Awards.
For around $20, you can see this riveting performance until October 14. The MWT is located at 2627 Pico Boulevard and showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
After the play comes to an end and you’re ready to settle in for the night, don’t come back to ordinary accommodations like a hotel.
